From celebrated American roots musician Norman Blake, Brushwood is a collection of original old time-inspired songs and rags. Played on instruments that date to as far back as 1907, the selections on Brushwood—though composed in the 21st century—would sound at home paired with any of Blake’s traditional recordings, or even the hillbilly 78s that first inspired him. On Brushwood, Blake’s ability to synthesize and build from the tradition of American roots music is abundantly clear, offering impressive and exciting compositions masterfully performed.
